Buttwil

Buttwil (Swiss German: Buttel bʊt, ː əl ) is a municipality in the district of Muri in the canton of Aargau and is located on the western edge of the Bünztal valley.

Geography

The village is situated on a terrace on the eastern slope of the Lindenberg, two kilometers west (and about 180 meters above) the district municipal seat. About half a mile southwest of the village, there is another terrace with the hamlet Galitzi (724 m above sea level. M. ). The slope falls from otherwise evenly and is drained by several small streams that flow east into the Sörikerbach and finally in the Bünz. Along the western and northern municipal boundary flows in a deep gorge of the knowledge stream.

The area of the municipality is 461 hectares, of which 103 hectares are forested and built over 56 hectares. The highest point is located on 813 meters on the crest of the Lindenberg, the deepest at 570 meters on the eastern boundary of the municipality.

Neighboring municipalities are Boswil in the north, Muri in the east, in the southeast Geltwil, Hitzkirch the southwest, Schongau in the west and Bettwil in the northwest.

History

The village was first mentioned in records in 1160 in the Acta Murensia as Butwile. The place name comes from Old High Putinwilari and means " farm estate of Puto ". The monastery Muri owned here since its establishment in 1027 large landholdings and the lower courts. Sovereigns and the owner of the high courts were the Habsburgs.

In 1415 the Swiss Canton Aargau and Buttwil conquered was now a part of the Office of Muri in the outdoor offices, a commons regime. In March 1798, the French invaded Switzerland and proclaimed the Helvetic Republic. Buttwil became a separate municipality in the district of Muri and agent shaft of the short-lived Canton of Baden along with knowledge Bach. Since 1803 Buttwil is part of the Canton of Aargau, but made until 1816, together with Muri, Aristau and Geltwil a district municipality.

For many centuries Buttwil was a modest, marked by the agriculture village. In the second half of the 19th century, the population decreased by about one-third as many impoverished villagers emigrated. After a long period of stagnation began in the mid -1970s, a building boom. Within thirty years, tripled the population. Buttwil developed from a peasant into a residential community. Further growth is not expected because the community no longer has any significant land reserves.

Attractions

An immigrant violinist donated 500 guilders for the construction of the chapel of St James. It was built in 1666 by local craftsmen and consecrated in 1669. 1949/50, extended to the chapel by two window axes.

Coat of arms

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is: " In red white scallop with pierced wings. » The scallop shell is a reference to the many pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela, one of which resulted in over Buttwil. Be reminded also the name of the hamlet Galitzi ( Galicia ). By 1957 the community had used as a crest motif, the Calvary of Christ, but is historic for the entire outdoor offices.

On December 31, 2013 1163 people lived in Buttwil, the proportion of foreigners was 7.9 %. At the 2000 census, 55.9 % were Roman Catholic, reformed 30.0 % and 1.2 % Muslim; 0.6 % belonged to other faiths. 95.6 % reported German as their main language, 0.7% each French and Albanian, 0.6 % speak Italian.

Politics and Law

The Assembly of the voters, the municipal assembly, shall exercise the legislative power. Executive authority is the five-member council. Traffic

Buttwil is on the little-traveled road between Muri and driving cheeks, which leads over the Lindenberg. A post bus line connects the village to the SBB train station Muri and Geltwil. This line is especially important for school transport. On the Galitzi Terrace at Lindenberg is a small airfield ( ICAO designator LSZU, 728 m above sea level. Education

The municipality has a kindergarten and a primary school. All upper level of compulsory elementary school ( junior high school, middle school, school district ) can be visited in Muri. The nearest district school (high school ) is located in Wohlen.
