Cabañas Department

Cabañas is one of 14 departments in El Salvador and is located in the north of the country on the border with Honduras.

The capital of the department is Sensuntepeque. Cabañas was founded on 10 February 1873. Received its name from the Department of General José de la Trinidad Cabañas Francisco Fiallos.

The main economic factors in Cabañas are the cultivation of beans and sugar cane. A hydroelectric power station on the Río Lempa supplies the region with electricity.
