Cagliari light rail

The light rail from Cagliari, official name Metrocagliari, is a light rail in the Sardinian city of Cagliari. It is classified as leggera Metropolitana (light metro). As part of the Sardinian Ferrovie della Sardegna narrow gauge railway ( FdS ), it also has the track gauge of 950 mm. The fleet consists of articulated trams of the type of Škoda 06T. The construction is funded by the EU Structural Funds. The first 6.5 kilometer long line with seven intermediate stations between the stations at Piazza Repubblica and Monserrato went in March 2008. It was built over a previously about the local traffic of the route FdS serving from 1888 from 2004.

The original plan envisaged a gradual expansion of the network on four lines. The originally planned for 2011 extension to the University is to be taken in the year 2014.

Line path

Planning

Extension Policlinico San Gottardo

The extension Gottardo Policlinico is currently (2013 ) under construction. It is 1950 meters long, which run from 1,750 meters on an elevated track. After its planned opening in 2014 (the original opening was provided in late 2011 ) they will connect the terminal Gottardo with the University Hospital and Campus Monserrato.

The investment costs for the realization of this route amounted to 20 million euros. For the construction of a part of the route of the railway was never built Monserrato - San Paolo has been used over a bridge on the national highway 554 to reach the University Hospital and the University campus.

On this section the two intermediate holding dell'Argine and SS are to be served 554.

Extension of San Gottardo Settimo San Pietro

Extension Piazza Repubblica Piazza Matteotti

In 2012, it was announced that the next expansion of the light rail at the city end through the center should lead to the train station at Piazza Matteotti. In 2012, the preliminary design should be done. The construction costs are estimated at 24 million euros. The 2.5 km long route to run from Piazza Repubblica along the Via Dante, Viale Cimitero, Piazza Madre Teresa di Calcutta, Viale Diaz and Via Roma to Piazza Matteotti. The opening will take place in two stages. The first phase of the Piazza Repubblica to Piazza Madre Teresa di Calcutta, to be completed by the end of 2015. The opening of the total distance to the station is planned for 2017.
