Cagliari light rail

The light rail from Cagliari, official name Metrocagliari, is a light rail in the Sardinian city of Cagliari. It is classified as leggera Metropolitana (light metro). As part of the Sardinian Ferrovie della Sardegna narrow gauge railway ( FdS ), it also has the track gauge of 950 mm. The fleet consists of articulated trams of the type of Škoda 06T. The construction is funded by the EU Structural Funds. The first 6.5 kilometer long line with seven intermediate stations between the stations at Piazza Repubblica and Monserrato went in March 2008. Planning

Extension Policlinico San Gottardo

After its planned opening in 2014 (the original opening was provided in late 2011 ) they will connect the terminal Gottardo with the University Hospital and Campus Monserrato.

The investment costs for the realization of this route amounted to 20 million euros. For the construction of a part of the route of the railway was never built Monserrato - San Paolo has been used over a bridge on the national highway 554 to reach the University Hospital and the University campus.

In 2012, it was announced that the next expansion of the light rail at the city end through the center should lead to the train station at Piazza Matteotti.
