Cairn Gorm (Gaelic: An Càrn Gorm, dt Blue Hill ) is a mountain in the Grampian Mountains in the northeast of Scotland, who is counted among the 282 Munros. After the summit, the mountain group of the Cairngorms is named because it appears to be in the north is the highest peak of the massif from the perspective of the deeper areas. The summit of Cairn Gorm is the easiest to reach from the valley station of the Cairngorm car park. A hiking trail leads to the mountain station Ptarmigan (German grouse ). In winter, ski lifts operate even.
Hiking
In the summer there are many hikers here. The terrain is easy and it can be overcome from the valley station of only 800 meters. So 1971 6 people died here in November in a sudden snowstorm. But even in summer violent storms and snow can occur very suddenly.
Winter sports
Be found one of a total of five Scottish ski resorts on the north slopes of Cairn Gorm. There are a total of 37 km of pistes, the longest has a length of 2.2 km. 16 ski lifts are operated here.
Ptarmigan top station
The hill station can be reached by cable car. It must not be abandoned. This serves to keep the mass tourism, the Cairngorm funicular has initiated from the plateau. Only real hikers should be able to reach the summit. This is to connect an attempt to tourism and conservation.
With 1097 m altitude, the mountain station contains the highest restaurant in Scotland. Through the window you have a great view if the weather. There is also a shop and an exhibition.
