Calfreisen

Calfreisen (Romansh Chiaunreis? / I ) until December 31, 2012, a municipality in the district Schanfigg in the district Plessur in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities of Castiel, Long Meadow, Lüen, Molinis, Peist and St. Peter- Pagig to the municipality Arosa.

The coat of arms refers to the family ways, formerly owner of the castle Calfreisen, today's ruin Bernegg.

Geography

Calfreisen located in Schanfigg, 5 km (air line) east of Chur. The predominantly rural village extends on a slope strip the rugged northern side of the valley, some 500 m above the Plessur and 130 m above the Schanfiggerstrasse. The former municipality covers a narrow strip between the deeply incised canyons of Calfreiser Tobel in the west and Castieler ravine in the east; It starts from the river up to the Hochwangkette which ( 2,266 m) over the Ful mountain ( 2395 m) is from Montalin the northern boundary of the territory. On the ridge between Ful mountain and Hochwang the highest with 2429 m point of the former municipality is reached.

From all over the former municipality of 517 ha, 256 ha of arable land (mostly Alpine farms ), 155 hectares of forest and woodland, 97 ha of unproductive area (mostly mountains) and 9 ha settlement area.

Calfreisen bordered on Castiel, Maladers, Lenzerheide - Praden and Trimmis.

History

The 1156 mentioned as Caureisene place belonged to the Three Leagues to the court Ausserschanfigg the ten federal court.

Population

The former church was always only a small community and has always less than a hundred residents counted. Between 1808 and 1850, the population grew rapidly ( from 1808 to 1850: 72 %). Calfreisen one of those former municipalities in the canton of Grisons, who adopted the new ( Reformed ) doctrine. In 2000, there were 93 % and 2% Evangelical Protestant Roman Catholic Christians. 5 % of residents did not detail their creed.

Origin - Nationality

From the end of 2004, 51 residents are 46 Swiss citizens. At the last census 89 % were Swiss nationals. The few immigrants all came from Germany.

Economy

To be dominated in Calfreisen agriculture. Larger commercial enterprises, village shop and inn does not exist.

Traffic

The former municipality is connected with the stop Calfreisen branch of the postal bus Chur- Peist grid of public transport. Individual courses run by appointment to the village.

Attractions

On a spur on the southern outskirts lie the ruins of the castle Bernegg.
