Calingasta Department

The department Calingasta lies in the west of the San Juan province in western Argentina is one of 19 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered to the north by the Departamento Iglesia, on the east by the departments Sarmiento, Zonda and Ullum, to the south by the province of Mendoza and the west by Chile.

With 0.4 inhabitants per square kilometer is the department that occupies 25 % of the area of the whole province, very sparsely. In an area that is larger than Hesse fewer people than in Rudesheim am Rhein live.

The capital of the department Calingasta is Tamberias.
