Campfire Songs is the third album by the experimental band Animal Collective from Baltimore. It was recorded in November 2001 and later published in March 2003, Catsup Plate, the band's own label Paw Tracks.

Genesis

The album includes five songs that have been played and recorded in one piece. Although the album in November (where it was very cold now times ) was recorded, the songs were produced outside on a house porch in Maryland. They used three mini disc recorder from Sony ECM - MS907 Microphones Sony, which were placed strategically around the band. Background noise and field recordings was also recorded and later incorporated into the songs. The album was mixed at the home of Avey Tare in Bushwick and eventually mastered with Nicholas Vernhes.

About the recordings and the ideas for this album Panda Bear 2005 told in an interview:

"We had the idea for a while, something really to produce hot Klingendes and Inviting, at least three or four years. We wanted to design it so that it feels like a campfire and then left us to campfire songs ( Campfire songs ) think where you can sing along with a group of people and everyone is together and feel safe and well. It was actually not spontaneous or improvised. [ ... ] We worked for a month or so merely on harmonizing the transitions between songs. I still believe the passage from Queen Of My Pictures in doggy is one of the best things we have ever done. I was also really excited about my vocals on Campfire Songs, I think, because I felt like I was doing things that were difficult for me, "

Occupation

The three Animal Collective members Avey Tare on this album are, Panda Bear and Deakin, who plays along for the first time. It is their only album that has this occupation. Although the Member Geologist does not play on the album, he was still present in the recordings and worked with the recording equipment. At this time (despite the presence of all four original members), there was not even the Animal Collective. Instead, " Campfire Songs " is not only just the name of the album, but also the artist should be. Nevertheless, the name " Animal Collective " in the newer copies of the album booklet.

Miscellaneous

About a week before the recordings they played the entire album live in the bar Tonic in New York City, while the audience was sitting right beside them. Campfire Songs is one of the two Animal Collective albums, which leg is holding a booklet with all the lyrics. The other album of this kind is Strawberry Jam of 2007. Catsup Plate The original version of the album is sold out since 2008. It was re-released by Paw Tracks Records on January 26, 2010.

Reception

3.5 out of 5 stars the album gets at allmusic. The critic Gregory Heany wrote there:

" The airy beauty of the vocal harmonies and the smooth transitions between songs show the intention and the foresight and the result is a series of tracks, which are more musical than pure soundscapes, but also any songs in the traditional sense. While Campfire Songs is not as dense and kinetically long as it should be the later work of Animal Collective, it shows their skills for stacked harmony and experimental song structures, which makes this album a fine part for atmospheric headphone listening.
