Can not Hold Us Down is the fourth single from Christina Aguilera's second studio album Stripped. The song was published in 2003. Can not Hold Us Down is a duet with rapper Lil 'Kim. The song reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, making the song was Aguilera's tenth Top 20 hit in the United States. The single reached number two in New Zealand, number 6 in the UK and # 5 in Australia. The song was nominated for a 2004 Grammy Award in the category Best Pop duet with singing.
Background
Can not Hold Us Down was written by Aguilera, Matt Morris and Scott Storch and produced. It is a duet with the rapper Lil 'Kim, who with Aguilera already on the cover of Lady Marmalade from the Moulin Rouge! Soundtrack from 2001 worked. Both have been friends for the recording of Lady Marmalade, Christina Kim and together formed a "Girl Power" team. The song is a sample of P.Diddys hit Can not Nobody Hold Me Down.
As with previous singles, was inspired by the Hip- Hop Can not Hold Us Down by Lil 'Kim.
The song is not on Aguilera's greatest hits album Keeps Gettin ' Better: A Decade of Hits included.
Music Video
The director for music video by David LaChapelle, the music video was filmed in Los Angeles, behind a backdrop that the Manhattan of the 80s is supposed to represent. In the music video Aguilera dancing with a man in the street. Then dancers will be added and Aguilera begins with the singing. After Lil 'Kim starts rapping. The music video premiered on 23 August 2003 BET's 106 & Park.
