Cândido Rubens Padín

Cândido Rubens Padín OSB ( born September 5, 1915 in São Carlos, Brazil, † January 25, 2008 in São Paulo) was Bishop of Lorena and Bauru.

Life

Cândido Rubens Padín joined in 1943 the Congregation of the Benedictines at and received on 15 September 1946, the ordination. In 1962 he was called by Pope John XXIII. appointed in the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, titular bishop of Tremithus and auxiliary bishop. The episcopal ordination donated to him on August 5, 1962 Jaime Cardinal de Barros Câmara and José Clemente Carlos de Gouvea Isnard and José Carlos de Aguirre. In 1966, by Pope Paul VI. the appointment as Bishop of the Diocese of Lorena and 1970, the second bishop of the Diocese of Bauru.

He studied theology and philosophy in 1942 and a doctorate in philosophy. After studying law, he was later Professor of Law and Dean of the Law Faculty of the University of São Paulo. He founded the Juventude Católica Universitaria ( JUC ). He engaged against injustice and for human rights.

His 1990 resignation of John Paul II was upheld. He died at the Benedictine Monastery in São Paulo.
