Candlebox

Candlebox is an American rock band from Seattle, Washington. It was founded in November 1991 by singer Kevin Martin and drummer Scott Mercado under the name Uncle Duke. Later, guitarist Peter Klett and bassist Bardi Martin were added, and the band name was changed to Candlebox, inspired by a song of the band Midnight Oil. Candlebox toured with bands like Living Colour, Flaming Lips, Our Lady Peace, Rush, Rollins Band and Metallica. They were at the Woodstock Festival in 1994 and there were several times in the David Letterman show on.

History

1993 got Candlebox by Maverick Records offered a recording contract. The self-titled debut album was released in the same year, the first single was Change on the market. Placement in the North American charts was only achieved with the second single You ( U.S. number 78 ). The big breakthrough came with the most successful single Far Behind (U.S. No. 18 ). The album Candlebox has sold over three million times, also it was awarded in the United States four times platinum.

In the fall of 1995, the much harder second work Lucy, which was certified gold and just missed the top ten followed. In 1997, the drummer Scott Mercado left the band and was replaced by former Pearl Jam drummer Dave Krusen.

The third album Happy Pills was released in 1998 and established style but rather on the debut album. The record sold relatively poorly and did not make it into the charts. The coupled- Singles It's Alright and 10,000 Horses were not very often played on the radio. Bardi Martin adopted in 1999, as well as Dave Krusen left the band, they were replaced by Shannon Larkin ( Ugly Kid Joe, Godsmack ) and Rob Redick.

After it also disagreed with the record company, the band broke up in 1999. The band members devoted themselves in the meantime their solo projects, including, vocalist Kevin Martin and guitarist Peter Klett Hiwatts the band redlightmusic.

Seven years later, with the release of The Best of Candlebox ( Rhino / WEA), the four original members united to a tour of nearly 70 American cities. Followed in 2007 in the summer another tour through the USA. Meanwhile, Adam Kury has taken the place of Bardi Martin on bass. In November 2007, Candlebox were taken at the Silent Majority Group under contract, one year later the album Into the Sun came on the market. In September, also the DVD Alive is published in Seattle.

During a time-out Kevin Martin founded with Sean Hennesy and the live musicians Chad Taylor, Chad Gracey and Patrick Dahlheimer the band The Gracious Few. Produced by Jerry Harrison and named after the band's album was released in 2009.

On April 3, 2012 Candlebox will release the fifth studio album Love Stories and other Musings.
