Canton 10

The Canton 10 ( Livno Canton also / Livanjski CANTON / Hercegbosanska županija / Zapadnobosanski called Canton; alternatively Herceg- Bosna or western Bosnia ) is one of the 10 cantons of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of the two entities of the State of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The name of the canton was long disputed between the representatives of Croatian and Bosniak ethnic group. In official documents it is therefore usually referred to by the serial number as Canton 10. The canton covers an area of ​​4934.9 km ². Council is based in Livno.

Extent and history

The canton covers the south-western part of Bosnia ( Drvar and Bosansko Grahovo ) and on the north-western Herzegovina ( Livno, Kupres and Tomislav degrees). The area of ​​Livno, Tomislavgrad and Kupres belonged to the Ottoman period not at that Sandzak Herzegovina, but first to the Sanjak Klis ( in Dalmatia ) and then after it was Venetian for the most part, to Bosnia. It was referred to as Zavrsje. Its cities, especially Livno, had a Bosnian embossed urban cityscape.

Population

The Canton has about 90,000 inhabitants ( census 2013) and is less than 20 inhabitants per square kilometer, very sparsely populated. He is one of the three cantons of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina with a majority Croat population.
