Carl August Benjamin Siegel

Carl August Benjamin Siegel (* April 27, 1757 in Dresden, † October 15, 1832 ibid ) was a builder and professor of architecture in Leipzig and Dresden.

Life and work

Siegel learned the Architecture Engineering in Dresden as a student of Friedrich August Gottlob August Krubsacius and woods. This was followed in Leipzig from 1785 employment as a teacher of architectural drawing at the Art Academy, which later became the Academy of Fine Arts and today's School of Visual Arts. He then became a full professor and was until 1823 Head of the Department of Architecture. He also appeared in Leipzig as a university architect. After 1823 he was Professor and Director of the Building at the Art Academy in Dresden, today's Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden.

Carl August Benjamin Siegel published in 1792 under the title "Six Mahlerian views from the garden to creators at Leipzig " designs for garden staffages the landscape park of Schloss makers. This was followed in Leipzig in 1793, opened Social House Place de Repos on the promenade, today Dittrichring 15 and 1797-1805 the reconstruction of the College Paulinum ( Vorderpaulinum ) in the University Straße 3-5. In 1817 he remodeled the old theater in Leipzig in classical style along with Friedrich Weinbrenner.

Siegel built together with Christian Friedrich Schuricht 1796-1802 Liebstadt the local castle to castle Kuckuckstein in neo-Gothic style around. From 1815 to 1820, he was an architect for the classical castle Lübbenau, an unusual double-wing system, whose wings are to each other at an obtuse angle so that an impressive opening courtyard was created with upstream meadow. In 1820 the orangery was built according to his plans also opposite the castle. In Dresden in 1825 came to his design the Brücknersche house Bautzener place, corner Alaungasse.
