Carl Wemmers

Carl Wemmers (* 1845, † September 18, 1882 in Cologne ) was a German chess master.

At the Congress of West German Chess Federation in Cologne in 1877, he shared behind Johannes Zukertort second place with John Metger and Emil Schallopp. A year later, in Frankfurt am Main, he finished 8th place before Adolf Stern and Eduard Hammacher. Wemmers also participated in the first congress of the German Chess Federation in 1879 in Leipzig in part, but he did not go beyond the last place. In 1880, he finished the tournament in Wiesbaden under sixteen participants to 12th place before Alexander Fritz and Constantin Swede. In the second DSB Congress in Berlin (1881 ) he shared with Fritz Riemann the 13th Place.

Wemmers was a merchant in Cologne, music and amateur singers. He died in his parents' house after several months of illness from the effects of blood poisoning.
