Carlo Bandirola

Carlo Bandirola (incorrectly Carlos Bandirola; born September 25, 1915 in Voghera, Lombardy, Italy, † September 21, 1981 ) was an Italian motorcycle racer.

During his playing days Bandirola was known as " Il Leone dell'Oltrepo " ("The Lion of the Oltrepò " ) known and famous among motorcycle racing fans because of his impulsive temperament and his impetuous driving style. Often, however, prevented this very hard, materialbeanspruchende driving style and his rejection of any form of race strategy victories or top rankings. Carlo Bandirola preferred demanding road courses like the Circuit de Montjuïc in Barcelona or the Circuit of Ospedaletti.

Career

Carlo Bandirolas racing career lasted for three decades. He began at the age of 19 years at regional reliability trials. From 1937 until the outbreak of World War II, he started to Gilera.

In 1950 Gilera Saturno Bandirola went on as a works driver in the 500 cc class of the Motorcycle World Championship at the start. On his third World Cup race, the Grand Prix of Switzerland in Geneva, he was able to celebrate finishing third behind Leslie Graham and Umberto Masetti his first podium finish. In the overall standings of the Italians occupied the fifth rank.

From 1951 to 1958 Carlo Bandirola launched for MV Agusta. In these seven years, the Lombards reach a total of six podium finishes, but not a single Grand Prix win. His best World Cup placing it reached in 1955 with fifth place. In 1958 Bandirola celebrated by winning the Italian Championship in the 500 cc class, but winning the title at the age of 43 years on a four-cylinder MV.

Carlo Bandirola went up in the 1960s, motorcycle racing at the start, then he opened a bar Overall, he played 15 World Cup races and was able to recorded seven podium finishes for himself in his hometown of Voghera.
