The motorcycle world championship 1954 season was the sixth in the history of FIM motorcycle road racing World Championship.

  • Had the 500 cc race at the Ulster Grand Prix due to bad weather of 27 to be reduced to 15 rounds and thus no longer fulfilled the requirements of the FIM, so he was not included in the championship standings. The race was won by Ray Amm before Rod Coleman and Gordon Laing.
  • As in the constructors 'championship the sidecar class, the two producers Norton and BMW had the same number of points, wins, and all other placements, the constructors' world championship was determined by adding all the race times of each best duo of producers in the individual Grands Prix. The British brand Norton had it awarded 1:32,8 minutes ahead of BMW and got the title.

Mortality

  • On 4 July 1954, the Australian Gordon Laing was killed in 350 cc race of the Grand Prix of Belgium and succumbed to his injuries.
  • The Austrian Rupert Hollaus came in 125 cc training for Nations Grand Prix at Monza in an accident after he was the world title in this class already computationally secure. He became the first and only posthumous world champion in the history of the motorcycle world championship.
