The motorcycle world championship 1987 season was the 39th in the history of FIM motorcycle road racing World Championship.

In the classes to 500 cc and 250 cc, 15, played eight races in the class up to 125 cc eleven in the class up to 80 cc of ten and at the sidecars.

In the class up to 500 cc Wayne Gardner took seven wins and points in every race first Australian title. Randy Mamola was the fourth time in his career World Cup runner-up, one point ahead of Eddie Lawson, who won five races. In Suzuka Grand Prix from Japan took place again after 20 years.
