The motorcycle world championship 1971 season was the 23rd in the history of the FIM motorcycle road racing World Championship.

In the classes to 500 cc to 350 cc to 125 cc and eleven were discharged eight races in the class up to 250 cc twelve in the class up to 50 cc and nine in the sidecars

Scoring

  • In the 250 cc race around the Grand Prize of the GDR, there was an uproar. Dieter Braun from Germany had won the race after an exciting battle against Phil Read and Rodney Gould, and had been doing cheered wildly, of the approximately 150,000 spectators. The race director Hans Zacharias was asked during the race by the GDR officials to take brown with the black flag of the race, because they wanted to prevent the national anthem of the Federal Republic of Germany is playing. Mortality

  • The Scot Maurice Jeffery died on June 12 in an accident on the first lap of the race, the Senior TT. He had lost control of his Manx Norton at the section Rhencullen and had hit a wall.
  • Christian Ravel from France crashed on July 4 in the 500cc race in Belgium in the BLANCHIMONT curve with about 240 km / h and he died the same day in the hospital.
  • The MZ rider Günter Bartusch from the GDR came on July 8 in a fall in training the 350- cc class at the Grand Prix of the GDR killed.
