The Motorcycle World Championship 2006 season was the 58th in the history of FIM motorcycle road racing World Championship.

In the MotoGP class were 17 and discharged 16 races in the classes up to 250 cc and up to 125 cc.

Scoring

World Champion will be the one driver or the designer, which until the end of season the most points accumulated in the World Cup. The distribution of points, the placings in the overall result of each race are taken into account. The fifteen first-placed rider in each race will receive points according to the following scheme:

Nicky Hayden took in 2006 his first world title in the MotoGP class against defending champion Valentino Rossi, who had a deficit of 51 points transformed after a comeback from mid-season in a lead, but his shot missed winning the title by a fall in the last race of the season. Seven drivers were in MotoGP win a race in the course of the season, Dani Pedrosa, Toni Elías and Troy Bayliss won her first race in each case in this class.

In the 250 cc class Jorge Lorenzo took to Aprilia with eight race wins his first title. In the 125cc also won with Álvaro Bautista a Aprilia rider the World Cup.
