Carlo Caffarra

Carlo Cardinal Caffarra ( born June 1, 1938 in Samboseto di Busseto, Parma, Italy Province) is Archbishop of Bologna.

Life

After studying Catholic theology in the Episcopal Seminary of Fidenza Caffarra received on 2 July 1961 in Samboseto the sacrament of Holy Orders. Subsequently, he completed his doctorate at the Pontifical Gregorian University for Doctor of Canon Law with a thesis on the termination of marriages and specialized in addition to the Pontifical Academy Alfonsina in Moral Theology, he taught in the sequence at the Universities of Fidenza and Parma.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him in 1974 in the International Theological Commission. 1980 Pope John Paul II appointed him as an expert on marriage and family issues at the Synod of Bishops and the head of the Pontifical Institute " John Paul II for Studies on Marriage and Family" at the Pontifical Lateran University. In addition, he gave him on 5 February of the same year the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness.

In 1983, he was also consultant to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

On 8 September 1995 John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Ferrara - Comacchio. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Bologna, Cardinal Giacomo Biffi, on 21 October 1995 at the Cathedral of Fidenza. The Archdiocese of Ferrara - Comacchio was Caffarra prior to his appointment as Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Bologna on 16 December 2003, whose leadership he officially took over on February 15, 2004 its inauguration in the Cathedral of Bologna.

Carlo Caffarra is moral theologian and a member of the conservative lay movement Communion and Liberation.
