Carlo De Benedetti

Carlo De Benedetti ( born November 14, 1934 in Turin, Italy, as Carlo Debenedetti ) is an Italian entrepreneur and engineer.

Life

De Benedetti grew up in a wealthy Jewish family in Turin. His brother is the Italian Senator Franco Debenedetti. During World War II his family fled to Switzerland in 1943. After the Second World War, De Benedetti studied in Turin Electrical Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino. After graduating, he worked in his father's, the Compagnia Italiana Tubi Metallici Flessibili companies. The company Gilardini was taken in 1972, its president De Benedetti was. He held until 1976 this position. Short term De Benedetti was also between 4 May and August 25, 1976 CEO of the Italian car company FIAT. In November 1976, De Benedetti took over the Italian company CIR Group, which he did obtain, among other things, the control of the national newspaper La Repubblica and the magazine L' Espresso. Furthermore, De Benedetti in 1978 in the Italian company Olivetti CEO, which he became president in 1983 and led the company until his professional retirement in 1996.

Carlo De Benedetti is an Italian and since 8 July 2009, the Swiss nationality.

Spelling of the name

Carlo De Benedetti was born as his brother with the family name Debenedetti and registered under this name in the parish register. Also her father had previously been registered under the surname Debenedetti, with several of his brothers attributed with the family name De Benedetti due to a typographical error in the community. While Franco Debenedetti retained the family name of his father, Carlo De Benedetti changed this later.
