Carlo Gaetano Stampa

Carlo Gaetano Stampa ( born 1 November 1667 Milan, † December 23, 1742 ibid ) was Archbishop of Milan and Cardinal.

Life

Early years

Stampa, Milan came from a patrician family, was sent as a twelve year old to Rome to study philosophy and theology at the local seminary. He then studied law at Pavia until 1698. In 1703 he was chamberlain of Pope Clement XI. and two years later Secretary at Apostolic Court. After three years as Vizelegat in Romagna, he became in 1709 governor of Spoleto.
