Carlos Borges

Carlos Ariel Borges, according to other sources Carlos Luis Borges ( born January 14, 1932 † February 5, 2014 in Montevideo ) was a Uruguayan football player.

Association

" Lucho " Borges, who came from the youth department of the Club Atlético Peñarol, played a total of 15 seasons, including 14 in a row División in the period from 1946 to 1960, in Montevideo in the Aurinegros in the Primera. During his time at the Left Wing Peñarol won with the club in the years 1949, 1951, 1953, 1954, 1958, 1959 and 1960 respectively, the Uruguayan championship in 1960 and the Copa Campeones de América, the predecessor of the Copa Libertadores. Here Borges was on 19 April 1960 in the match against the Bolivian club Jorge Wilstermann at the Estadio Centenario, the first scorer ever in this newly introduced competition. He then moved to Argentina, where he stood in rows of Racing Club de Avellaneda in 1961 to 1963. There is the profit of the Argentine league title for the club to book in 1961. In 1963 he returned to Peñarol. In 1964 he joined the antretenden in the Primera B Zona Norte Platense.

National

In 35 international matches between May 1954 and April 2, 1959 23, he fired ten goals for Uruguay. In 1956 he took part with the Celeste at the Campeonato Sudamericano and was South American champions. His only World Cup tournament played Borges in Switzerland in 1954. On July 10, 1963, Borges was on board the train running between Buenos Aires and Montevideo ship ( Vapor de la Carrera ) " Ciudad de Asunción ", which sank on this day. He survived the accident by clinging to several hours to a wooden piece of furniture, and also rescued a seven- year-old child.
