Carmelo Arden Quin

Carmelo Arden Quin, actually Carmelo Heriberto Alves, ( born March 16, 1913 in Rivera, Uruguay; † 27 September 2010 in Savigny- sur -Orge, France) was an Uruguayan artist.

Life

Growing up in Brazil, he met Joaquín Torres García 1935 in Montevideo know. This meeting was set the course for his life. In the same year was followed by a first exhibition in Montevideo. In 1944, he worked with then in the formation of the group and of the same magazine Arturo. Two years later he founded together with Gyula Kosice, Diyi Laan and Rhod Rothfuss the motion Madi. In 1948 he moved to Paris. There he presented the following year in the Salon Des Nouvelles Réalités first paintings, sculptures and relief works of art. In 1955 he returned to South America and called in Buenos Aires together with Aldo Pellegrini, the Asociación Arte Nuevo to life. In 1956, he made his way back to Paris, however. Arden Quin, the used materials such as wood, cardboard, plexiglass and plastic pipes for his art could, in numerous exhibitions in Europe and Japan look back. Arden Quin was married to Sofia Art by whose side he passed away 97 -year-old at his home in Savigny- sur -Orge near Paris.

Awards

From the Uruguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was awarded the Medal of the Republic ( Medalla de la República ). Montevideo declared him as an honorary citizen ( Ciudadano Ilustre ) and by the government in Buenos Aires, he was appointed cultural ambassador.
