Carnic Prealps

P1f1p5

The Southern Carnic Alps (Italian: Prealpi Carniche ) are a mountain range in the eastern Alps in the Italian regions of Veneto and Friuli- Venezia Giulia. The highest point of the group is the Cima dei Preti ( 2706 m slm ). A part of the Southern Carnic Alps are the Friulian Dolomites.

Boundary

The Alpine Club classification of the Eastern Alps (AVE ) defines the Southern Carnic Alps as follows: In the south, west and partly in the north, the mountain is limited by the Piave, more precisely in the north of Santo Stefano di Cadore to Sappada. About Forni Avolti it goes into the Deganotal and after Comeglians. After the course the Val Calda follows. Other boundary points form Paluzzo, Ligosullo and Paularo. Followed by Rio Turrico the mountain passes on to Forca Pradulina and along the Frattengrabens. This is followed by Pontebba and the valley of the Fella joins. This leads into the Tagliamento, forming the other boundary. This is followed by the northern Italian plains, where again San Stefano and the Piave is achieved.

Surrounding mountain ranges are the Dolomites, in the north of the main ridge of the Carnic and the Julian Alps in the east to the west.
