The Cathedral Mountain is a mountain in the center of the Australian state of Tasmania. It lies on the eastern edge of the Cradle Mountain - Lake St. Clair National Park.

The Cathedral Mountain is 1,387 m high. Its western edge is a spectacular cliff, crashing about 700 m in the valley of the River Mersey.

Most landmarks in the vicinity of the Cathedral Mountain have names reminiscent of the church, such as Chalice Lake, Lake Chapter, Cloister Lagoon, Convent Hill, Bishop Peak, Curate Bluff, Vicar and Dean Bluff Bluff.

Over the past 30 years, a large part of the summit building is broken and thrown several hundred meters deep in the rainforest. Thus, the rain forest has been wiped out and instead you will find a huge rubble pile that reaches almost to the banks of the Mersey River. The ensuing break point is still visible from many miles away.

Access

The West aborts are in the hiking season reached mainly via the Overland Track from Cradle Mountain from ( November to April ). During this time, there are booking fees, the number of walkers on the Overland Track is limited and it may only be walked from north to south. Out of season the way from the south to the north shall be committed. Furthermore, performing a combination of arm Rivertrack and Innes track to the mountain, as well as the Lees Paddocks track. Also there is a connection from the neighboring Vicar Bluff to Kia Ora. These alternative routes provide connections to the Overland Track.

The easiest ascent leads from the south end of the Mersey Forrest Road on the eastern shore of Lake Rowallan on the Moses Creek track. Then it goes on to Chapter Lake, the Grail Falls, the Lake Chalice and the Tent Tarn. From there it is another 2km to the summit through roadless terrain. Sometimes you see some stone men.
