CDMA2000

CDMA2000, IS-2000 also refers to a wireless standard for third generation ( 3G), which takes place primarily in the Americas and parts of Asia and Africa for the operation of mobile networks application. CDMA2000 used for data transmission, as well as that used in Europe 3G Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS ) is a code division multiple access ( engl. Code Division Multiple Access, CDMA ) which is derived the name of the standards. CDMA2000 is specified under the IMT -2000 ( International Mobile Telecommunications - Sheet 2000) ITU -R and the term CDMA2000 is a registered trademark of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA - USA) in the USA.

Colloquially the CDMA2000 mobile phone standard is erroneously equated with the procedure code division CDMA. In fact, CDMA2000 based in part on CDMA, but is not the CDMA multiplexing method dar. The UMTS standard is also based on a code division multiple access, however, is not compatible to CDMA2000.

The evolution of CDMA2000 goes back to the older, second-generation attributed Mobile Standard IS -95 ( cdmaOne ), which was developed by U.S. company Qualcomm. The methods used in CDMA2000 are partially patented and manufacturers of base stations and mobile devices are in the CDMA Development Group registered members. The evolution of CDMA2000 is driven in the context of the 3GPP2 ( 3rd Generation Partnership Project 2 ), while the UMTS mobile phone standard in 3GPP ( 3rd Generation Partnership Project ) is carried out.

Types

The CDMA2000 standard is divided into several sub-standards that describe different details and have partly resulted from the historical development out. The main sections are:

  • CDMA2000 1xRTT, the oldest standard for the radio interface. CDMA2000 1xRTT sometimes the mobile generation 2.5G is attributed, ie between the two mobile generations of the second and third generation. 1xRTT uses a bandwidth of 1.25 MHz. Data transfers, as they are offered in addition to voice telephony, are typically limited to 144 kbit / s.
  • CDMA2000 3xRTT also known as EV-DO Rev A, and uses the three-fold bandwidth of 3.75 MHz. In addition to the wider bandwidth, the multiplexing method has been improved in the radio channel and the possible data rates on the downlink up to 4.9 Mbit / s.
  • CDMA2000 EV -DO, for Evolution- Data Optimized or Evolution -Data only, referred to in the context of CDMA2000 method for exclusive data transfer, for example, mobile Internet access. In the context of EV -DO find next code division multiple access ( CDMA) and time division multiple access ( TDMA) application. CDMA2000 EV -DO is especially interesting for those operators that have no infrastructure for voice telephony, such as Internet service provider. EV -DO is functionally similar to the High Speed Downlink Packet Access used in UMTS ( HSDPA).
  • CDMA2000 EV - DV, for Evolution-Data/Voice, allows not only the transmission of data and voice ( voice telephony ).

Both EV - DV and EV -DO data rates up to 3 Mbit / s in the downlink and up to 1.8 Mbit / s in the uplink can be achieved.

Frequency ranges

The following frequency ranges are provided for the operation of CDMA2000 mobile networks, where the achievable sizes at the frequencies of the radio cells are indicated.

CDMA2000 in Germany

Since the mobile systems in Europe has evolved from the GSM standard, play CDMA2000 and EV -DO in Germany no significant role. The frequency used of 1800 MHz CDMA2000 of conflict in Germany with the GSM and LTE radio. The frequency range around 450 MHz, however, become vacant since the shutdown of the old C network at the end of 2000.

NetCologne realized the service "Internet OnAir ", respectively " Mobile SpeedNet " based on CDMA2000 and EV -DO at 450 MHz.
