The Celebrity Silhouette is a cruise ship owned by Celebrity Cruises.

History

The ship was built on behalf of Celebrity Cruises at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg and completed summer 2011. The amounts docked in June 2011 Celebrity Silhouette is one of the Solstice - class and was on 30 June / 1 July 2011 via the Ems to Eemshaven, to the Ems was dammed from noon of June 30. From Eemshaven several test and test drives with Meyer Werft employees have been performed. On July 18, Celebrity Cruises officially took over its new luxury liner and transferred these to Hamburg, where the ship was christened on 21 July 2011. On July 23, 2011 started in Hamburg 's official maiden voyage of the Celebrity Silhouette, which led the ship to Civitavecchia near Rome.

Between spring and autumn, the Celebrity Silhouette is running on the Mediterranean from Civitavecchia and Venice, in the winter months it has its home port in Fort Lauderdale for cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean.

Particulars

The Celebrity Silhouette is about 315 meters long, 36.80 meters wide and has a draft of up to eight meters. The ship has been surveyed with 122 210 GT. Of the 17 decks of the ship are 13 passenger decks that are available to a maximum of 2886 passengers. There are 1443 cabins available. The Celebrity Silhouette is the fourth ship in the Solstice class. Compared to the predecessor ships Celebrity Solstice ( constructed in 2008), Celebrity Equinox ( built in 2009 ) and Celebrity Eclipse ( built in 2010 ) has let the shipping company to make a number of changes in the public areas of the ship. So was, for example, on the so-called Lawn Club - a 2000m ² large real lawn on deck 15 - previously a glass blowing. This was replaced on the Celebrity Silhouette by the restaurant " Lawn Club Grill".

Drive

The drive of the Celebrity Silhouette consists of two controllable Azipods the manufacturer ABB. The energy demand is met by four diesel engines of type MAN Diesel & Turbo SE 14V48/60CR. The top speed is about 24 knots.

Criticism

NABU criticized at the naming of Celebrity Silhouette in 2011, that the propulsion system of the vessel was not environmentally friendly enough. The ship has neither a particulate filter or a desulphurisation (both systems are for the Celebrity Silhouette is not required by law). The Celebrity Silhouette comes as calculated by the NABU on their 5000 kilometer maiden voyage as much as 270,000 soot from cars as much nitrogen oxides as 4,700,000 cars and so much sulfur oxides, such as all of the cars in Europe would emit together on the same route.
