Cernex

Cernex is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Cernex is located on 576 m above sea level. M., about 19 km north of the town of Annecy (air line). The village stretches a scenic location on the southern slopes of the Montagne de Sion, a western foothills of the Salève, in a valley of the Nant Trouble, in Genevois.

The area of ​​12.66 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The southern boundary runs along the Usses, a left tributary of the Rhône, which flows here in a deep valley from east to west. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward to the slopes and terrain terraces on both sides of the little valley of the Nant Trouble and in the forest area of ​​the Bois Chardon. In the West, the Ruisseau de Mostan forms the border. To the north of the municipality floor extends to the broad crest of the Montagne de Sion, on the 857 m above sea level. History

Is first mentioned Cernex in 1208. Later spellings Sernai, Sernay and Sernex published. The place name comes originally from the Latin word circinate [ terra ] ( fenced, fenced land ). In the 15th and 16th centuries Cernex was the center of a small rule, which came into the possession of Thomas of Savoy in 1643.

Attractions

The village church Saint -Martin was built from 1530 to 1535. The former seat of power is obtained.

Population

With 919 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Cernex one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still in Cernex counted 911 inhabitants). Since the mid- 1970s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded thanks to the attractive residential area again.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Andilly after Sallenôves. Further road links exist with verse and Chavannaz. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of around 12 km.
