César Geoffray

César Geoffray ( born February 20, 1901 in Lyon, † December 24, 1972 in Soucieu -en- Jarrest ) was a French choirmaster. He co-founded the organization Europa Cantat and founder of the French choir À Coeur Joie Association and is considered an important Renovator of choral singing movement in France.

Geoffray grew up in Lyon and studied music at the conservatory in Florent Schmitt and Augustin Savard. Later he received a teaching of harmony and founded in 1940 the now internationally popular Choral Association À Coeur Joie. In addition, Geoffray committed in the French Scout movement and in 1942 was chief conductor of the vocal department.

In 1960 he participated in the founding of Europa Cantat together with Gottfried Wolters. Geoffray was also appointed by the Ministry of Education as the Special Representative.
