Chaldean Catholic Eparchy of Saint Thomas the Apostle of Detroit

The Eparchy of Saint Thomas the Apostle of Detroit (Latin: Eparchia Sancti Apostoli Thomas Detroitensis Chaldaeorum ) is a location in the U.S. eparchy of the Chaldean Catholic Church, headquartered in Southfield. It includes the states of: Alabama, Arkansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Iceland, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.

History

Pope John Paul II founded the Apostolic Exarchate of the United States of America with the Apostolic Constitution Quo aptius on 11 January 1982. Local Ordinary is since the founding Ibrahim Namo Ibrahim.

On August 3, 1985, was raised to the eparchy, and received its present name. On 21 May 2002, a part of the territory for the construction of the Eparchy of Saint Peter the Apostle of San Diego was ceded.
