Chang Yongxiang ( Chinese:常 永祥, Cháng Yǒngxiáng; born September 16, 1983 in Handan, Hebei ) is a Chinese wrestler. He won a silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling in the welterweight division at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Career

Chang Yongxiang comes from Taiyuan and belongs to the Ring Sport Club in Shanxi. He is 1.78 m tall and usually weighs around 80 kg. For the big international competitions he trains regularly in the welterweight class, the weight limit is 74 kg from. Chang Yongxian who belongs since 2005 the Chinese national team of wrestlers in Greco- Roman style, was, like his other Chinese Ringer comrades of the national team, specifically supported with respect to the implementation of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. A promotion that paid off for him, because since his first start in an international championship in 2005, he steadily rose up to win the silver medal in Beijing.

At the Asia Championships 2005 in Wuhan, his first start in an international championship, he finished 7th in the welterweight division. One year later, at the 2006 World Cup in Gungzhou / China, he still had to pay dearly, because he lost his first fight there against the Swedes Mohamed Reza Babulfath which he retired and ended on the 26th place.

Significant progress he showed in the Asia Cup 2007 in Bishkek / Kyrgyzstan. He reached there behind Daniar Kobonow from Kyrgyzstan, who won in this weight class in 2005 and also Assek Adilow from Kazakhstan to 3rd place. But with the 2007 World Championships in Baku, he had no luck, because lost his first fight against former world champion Manuchar Kwirkwelia from Georgia on points (1:3 rounds, 2:5 techn. Dots). Since Kwirkwelia already in the next round lost against the German Konstantin Schneider and retired, Chang finished only 36th place.

In 2008, Chan Yongxiang celebrated his first major victory, because he was in Jeju / Korea Asia welterweight champion before the defending champion Daniar Kobonow and Jung Tae- Kyun from South Korea. At the Olympic Games in Beijing, he showed up in top form in his first fight and defeated the world champion of 2007 Jawor Jana Kiev from Bulgaria on points, then he won over Sixto Barrera of Peru and Oleg Mikhailovich from Belarus. He reached the final, where he faced Manuchar Kwirkwelia. Kwirkwelia proved that day but still too strong for Chang and won this fight. Chang Yongyiang thus won the silver medal, which was a great success for him.
