Charalambos Cholidis

Haralambos Holidis (Greek Charalambos Cholidis Χαράλαμπος Χολίδης, born October 1, 1956 in Kazakhstan ) is a former Greek wrestler. He won one bronze medal in Greco-Roman Bantamweight at the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988.

Career

Haralambos Holidis, nicknamed Babis, ( Μπάμπης ) began as a teenager in 1969 with the rings. His club was Atlas Kallithea Athinai and his coach Paraskus Boras. He wrestled exclusively in the Greco-Roman style, it was during his active military personnel.

Only 17 years old, he began his international career in 1973 with launch at the European Championships in Helsinki and at the World Championships in Tehran. He stood in the paper weight, the weight class up to a body weight of 48 kg. In Helsinki, he remained without a win and came on the 11th place, while in Tehran the Spaniard Juan Gonzalez and the Tunisian Habib Dlimi defeated and thus took a good 6th place.

Also get at the European Championships 1974 in Madrid Haralambos Holidis in paper weight two wins, which he narrowly missed a medal in 4th place. He defeated there by Nicu Ganga from Romania, Benni Ljungbeck from Sweden and Lajos Rácz from Hungary three world-class wrestler. He defeats suffered by Petar Kirov from Bulgaria and Vladimir Schatunow from the USSR. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, however, he remained without a win and came flyweight after defeats against Lajos Rácz and Bruce Thompson, United States, only on the 11th Place.

The next good placement reached Haralambos Holidis at the World Championships 1977 in Gothenburg. He came there with three wins on the 5th Place. Counter Kamil Fatkulin from the USSR and Nicu Ganga he lost it.

In 1978, he then won his first medal at a World Cup. In Mexico City, he hit it on the way to a bronze medal Lajos Rácz, Sumer Karadag from Turkey and Antonio Caltabiano from Italy, while he was subject from Bulgaria against Rolf Krauss from Germany and Krum Borisov.

In the period 1979 to 1982, Haralambos Holidis placed at the international championships usually in the upper middle. Although he showed with 5th and 6th places at the World Championships 1981 in Oslo and 1982 in Katowice very good performance. At the European Championships in 1983, he then won his next medal. After these games Haralambos Holidis ended his career in which he won a total of seven medals at international championships, the jump to the top of the podium but never succeeded. He hit a the coaching profession and is now in Athens one of the coaches of the Greek national team, wrestler in the Greco - Roman style.
