Charles II, Duke of Bourbon

Charles II de Bourbon ( * 1433 in Moulins, † September 13, 1488 in Lyon) was Archbishop of Lyon and a short time the Duke of Bourbon.

Life

Charles de Bourbon was the son of Duke Charles I de Bourbon and his second wife Agnes of Burgundy. Even at age 10 he was elected canon 1443 and the following year the Archbishop of Lyon. 1446, after the death of Geoffroy II de Versaillera, who was also appointed archbishop in 1444, he was appointed in this position. During his minority he stood from 1446 to 1447 under the reign of Rollin, Bishop of Autun, then from 1447 to 1449 under the Jean du Gué, Bishop of Orléans, finally, from 1449 to 1469 under the Jean de Bourbon, Bishop of Le Puy -en- Velay. 1472 to 1476 he was legate of the pope resided in Avignon. Shortly before his death he inherited from his brother John II the possession of which, most notably the Duchy of Bourbon and the Duchy of Auvergne.

He had an illegitimate daughter, Isabelle, Gilbert de Chantelot, seigneur de La Chaise married; she died in 1497 in Paris.

Charles de Bourbon is buried in the Cathedrale Saint -Jean.
