Charles James Faulkner

Charles James Faulkner (* September 21, 1847 in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, Virginia; † January 13, 1929 ibid ) was an American politician (Democratic Party), who represented the state of West Virginia in the U.S. Senate.

Faulkner's father, also named Charles James Faulkner. At the time of the birth of his son, he had already embarked on a political career; 1851-1877 he sat for Virginia and later for West Virginia in the House of Representatives of the United States. The younger Charles Faulkner came to " Boydville ", the country estate of his family in what is now West Virginia, to the world. In 1859 he accompanied his father to France, where it served as U.S. ambassador until he was arrested in 1861 because he had negotiated in Paris on arms purchases for the Confederacy.

During his stay in Europe Charles James Faulkner had visited schools in Paris and Switzerland. In 1898 he was appointed to the International Joint High Commission, where he negotiated the U.S. side with British representatives on issues of border with Canada. Faulkner died in 1929 at the estate of his family and was buried in Martinsburg.
