Rush D. Holt, Sr.

Rush Dew Holt, Sr. ( born June 19, 1905 in Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia; † February 8, 1955 in Bethesda, Maryland ) was an American politician who represented the state of West Virginia in the U.S. Senate.

Life

After schooling Rush Holt studied at West Virginia University in Morgantown, before he made his college degree in 1924 in Salem. He then worked as a teacher and athletic trainer at a high school; later he worked as a lecturer at Salem College and the State Teachers ' College in Glenville.

From 1931 to 1935, the Democrat Holt sat in the House of Representatives from West Virginia. After he was elected in November 1934, U.S. Senator, he would have this seat normally should take in January 1935, but since he was at that time not yet 30 years old, he moved after his birthday on 21 June of the same year in Congress a. In 1948, he failed a second time in an attempt to become more democratic Senate candidate. Then Holt changed his party affiliation and joined the Republicans in 1949. This nominated him in 1950 for election to the U.S. House of Representatives and in 1952 as governor, but he was defeated in both cases. In 1954 he was again elected to the House of Representatives from West Virginia, where he remained until his death the following year.

His son Rush was also a politician. He belongs to the Democrats and sits as a member of parliament from New Jersey in the House of Representatives in Washington.
