Charles Longuet

Charles Longuet César Félix ( born February 14, 1839 in Caen, Calvados; † August 5, 1903 in Paris) was a French journalist and Proudhonist.

Life

Charles Longuet was the son of a hosiery dealer and Felicitas Longuet. He was chief editor of La Rive Gauche ( 1864-1866 ). In July 1866 he was arrested in Bagneres -de- Bigorre in the French Pyrenees for eight months ..

As a prominent member of the socialist workers' movement in France and Pierre-Joseph Proudhon's followers Longuet sat in the General Council of the First International ( 1866-67, 1871-72 ). It was proposed on January 9, 1866 by Hermann Jung and Eugéne Dupont and voted on January 15. He served as corresponding secretary for Belgium (1866 ), Delegate for Lausanne (1867 ), Brussels ( 1868), the London Conference ( 1871/1872 ).

As a member of the Paris Commune fled after their defeat of England. On March 17, 1883 Mr. Charles Longuet was one of the speakers at Marx's funeral in Highgate Cemetery. Longuet was one of the editors of the " Journal de la République française officiell ", the official organ of the Central Committee of the National Guard ( March 20, 1871 to May 24, 1871).

Family

On October 9, 1872, he married Jenny Caroline Marx in London, the eldest daughter of Jenny and Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, and in the presence of Albert Theiz. His wife died in January 1883.

They had six children, five boys and the last daughter: Charles Félicien Longuet (* September 2, 1873; † July 20, 1874 ), Jean -Laurent- Fréderick Longuet called Johnny ( * May 10, 1876; † September 11 1938); Harry Michel Longuet called Harra (* July 4, 1878, † March 20, 1883 ); Edgar Longuet, called Wolf ( * August 18, 1879, † December 12, 1950 ); Marcel Longuet (* April 1881, † 1949) and Jenny Longuet (* September 16, 1882, † 1952). Her sons Jean Longuet and Edgar Longuet also engaged as French Socialists.
