Chars

Chars is a commune with 1862 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Val- d'Oise of the Ile- de -France region; it belongs to Arrondissement Pontoise and Canton Marines. The inhabitants " Charsiens " or " Charsiennes " call themselves.

Geography

The community Chars located 44 kilometers north-west of Paris. It is located in the Regional Natural Park Vexin français.

Neighboring communities chars are Le Bellay -en- Vexin and Nucourt in the west, and Bouconvillers Lavilletertre in the north, Neuilly -en- Vexin and Marines to the east and Brignancourt and Moussy in the south.

History

Dagobert I gave Chars the Abbey of Saint -Denis. End of the 12th century, the city came into the possession of Jean de Gisors. Jeanne de Ferrière, a great-granddaughter of Louis VIII, founded in 1306, the Hôtel -Dieu in Chars. 1548 the site was secured under Louis de Rouville.
