Chessenaz

Chessenaz is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Chessenaz is located on 436 m above sea level. M., about 23 km northwest of the town of Annecy (air line). The farming village extends a scenic location on a ridge above the mouth of a short side of the creek in the Usses, southwest of the Montagne de Vuache, in Genevois.

The area of ​​5.23 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western Genevois. The southern boundary runs along the Usses, a left tributary of the Rhône, which flows here in a wooded valley from east to west. The valley is incised about 150 m into the surrounding plateau. From the north, flows below Chessenaz a side stream, is also part of whose eastern side of the valley to the municipality. To the east, the municipality's area extends to the adjacent plateau. With 595 m above sea level. M. is achieved the highest elevation of Chessenaz at the foot of the Montagne de Vuache.

History

Is first mentioned in the 14th century Chessenaz under the name Chissina. The name goes back to the Old French word chesnei (oak grove ). Chessenaz 1860 the newly created Canton Frangy allocated; previously it belonged to the canton Seyssel.

Population

With 187 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Chessenaz one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Savoie.
