Life

Political career

Brodie was first a member of the Liberal Democrats. For this, he joined several times unsuccessfully for election to the House of Commons; so in 1992 in the constituency of Glasgow Garscadden, 1997 in the constituency of Perth and 2001 in the constituency of Greenock and Inverclyde. Also among the first Scottish Parliament elections in 1999, he ran, but was able to win only the fourth highest share of the vote in his constituency Perth and failed to reach the Scottish Parliament clearly.

In 2002 he left the Liberal Democrats and joined the Scottish National Party (SNP ) on. In the general election, 2005, he first came to the SNP, the direct mandate of his constituency Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock clearly failed. The same was true at the general election in 2010 in the same constituency. In the Scottish Parliament elections in 2011 Brodie just missed the direct mandate of the constituency Ayr behind the Liberal Democrats John Scott. Since Brodie, however, was also placed on the Regional Evaluation of the SNP in the electoral region of South Scotland, he received one of the four list seats in this election the SNP region and moved for the first time in the Scottish Parliament.
