Chika Chukwumerije

Chika Chukwumerije Yagazie (born 30 December 1983) is a Nigerian Taekwondo, which starts at heavyweight.

Chukwumerije qualified in the African qualifying tournament in Cairo for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and played there his first international competition, but different in his opening fight against Pascal Gentil and finished third in the final standings in eleventh. The following year he took part in the Universiade in Izmir, but failed to make the semi-finals. In 2007, he won the heavyweight gold medal at the Pan-African Games in Algiers. The biggest sporting success of his career celebrated Chukwumerije at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. With two opening victories in the class over 80 pounds, it moved into the semifinals, where he lost to Alexandros Nikolaidis, defeated in the battle for third, but Akmal Ergashev and won the bronze medal. It was the first Nigerian Olympic medal in taekwondo. His first World Cup played Chukwumerije, 2011 in Gyeongju, but he left early. When African Olympic Qualification Tournament 2012 in Cairo, he was in the class above 80 kg to reach the final against Anthony Obame and qualify for his third Olympic Games 2012 in London.

His father Uche Chukwumerije is a former Nigerian politician and minister.
