Chinatown (MBTA-Station)

China Town is the name of a metro station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ) in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. It provides access to the metro line to the Orange Line and Silver Line bus route. The station was named after the district of Chinatown, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the subway stations.

History

On November 30, 1908, the station Chinatown as part of the Washington Street tunnel (now the Orange Line ) was opened. First, the platforms carrying different station names and were combined in 1967 to Essex. On 4 May 1987, the station was given its present name Chinatown with the opening of the South West Corridor. Since July 20, 2002, the station is also served by buses of the Silver Line.

Building

The metro station is located at the intersection of Washington Street, Essex Street and Boylston Street. The building is completely accessible. As part of the Arts on the Line of the MBTA project the artwork " Colors on the Line " by Toshihiro Katayama was installed in the station, which consists of multi-colored enameled steel panels.

Surroundings

At the station there is a connection to a bus line as well as the Silver Line lines 4 and 5 of the MBTA. In the immediate vicinity of the Washington Street Theatre District and the Emerson College.
