Chip Taylor

Chip Taylor, actually James Wesley Voight, ( born January 1, 1940 in New York City, New York) is an American songwriter.

Career

Taylor is the younger brother of actor Jon Voight, and thus uncle of Angelina Jolie and James Haven. After an unsuccessful attempt to become a professional golfer, Chip Taylor launched a career in the music business. He composed alone or with other composers such as Al Gorgoni, Billy Vera, Ted Daryll and Jerry Ragavoy pop and rock songs. His best-known compositions are of the Troggs ( " The Troggs " ) interpreted piece Wild Thing, Angel of the Morning, Merrilee Rush and written for the turn -abouts, and " Try ( Just a Little Bit Harder ) ," which Janis Joplin recorded. Other pieces are the pop hit " I Can not Let Go", "Make Me Belong to You", " I Can Make It With You", "Step Out of Your Mind ", " Country Girl City Man " and "I ' 'll Hold Out My Hand " as well as the country hits " Sweet Dream Woman " and" Son of a Rotten Gambler ".

Mid-seventies gave Taylor on the music business and became a professional gambler ( blackjack and horse racing). Only in 1993 he began to write again on new songs (including " Son of a Rotten Gambler " - written for his son Kristian ) and record it.

He is currently working together with the violinist Carrie Rodriguez, with whom he last appeared at the invitation of Bill Frisell in autumn 2005 at the Ruhr Triennale in the series Century of Song.
