Chira River

Poechos Dam

Río Chira is the name of a river in northern Peru whose mouth is about 20 kilometers north of the provincial capital of Piura. The river rises in the Andes mountains in Ecuador, near the town Papaca in the province of Loja. From there, it flows 250 km to the east. Close behind the border with Peru the Río Chira is dammed up to 885 million m³ Poechos Reservoir and crosses on his run later, the city Sullana.
