Chivilcoy

Chivilcoy is a town with 60 762 inhabitants (2001, INDEC ) in the Province of Buenos Aires in Argentina.

It was founded 150 years ago and located about 180 kilometers from Buenos Aires. As fast Italian immigrants settled there until today are almost all surnames of residents of Italian origin.

The famous Argentine writer Julio Cortázar lived and worked from 1939 to 1944 in Chivilcoy, among other things, he was a Spanish teacher at the school in Chivilcoy.

Another special feature is that Chivilcoy the only city in Argentina, which has only a diagonal street and otherwise consists of square blocks and parks.

Chivilcoy has been twinned with the Italian town of Sciacca.
