Choisy, Haute-Savoie

Choisy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Choisy is located at 611 m above sea level. M., about 12 km north- northwest of the city of Annecy (air line). The farming village extends a scenic location on a gently sloping hillside overlooking the valley to the west of the Petites Usses, northwest of the ridge of La Mandallaz, in Genevois.

The area of ​​16.57 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. In the west the boundary runs partially along the creek Petites Usses (left side of the creek Usses ) as it flows in a valley with several turns from southeast to northwest. From this valley, the municipality's area extends eastward across the adjacent trough and the slope Choisy up a broad ridge (730 m above sea level. Neighboring communities of Choisy are Marlioz and Cercier in the north, Allonzier -la- Caille and Cuvat to the east, La Balme -de- Sillingy in the south and Mésigny and Sallenôves in the West.

History

The place name is probably derived from the Gallo-Roman family names Caucius and means about as much as the estate Caucius. In the Middle Ages belonged to the rule Choisy La Vulpillière who came to the family Compey of Thorens- Glières in the 13th century. In 1533 the site was temporarily under the direct rule of the Counts of Geneva, before 1568 the family Reydet was entrusted with the management of the site.

Attractions

The village church was built in 1880 in the Gothic Revival style on the site of an earlier building, the choir of this church was incorporated in the 15th century. In the hamlet Rossy is a castle that was built in the 17th century by the family Reydet.

Population

With 1555 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Choisy one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still 950 residents counted in Choisy ). Since the mid- 1970s, however, a striking increase in population was recorded thanks to the beautiful residential area again.
