Christen Købke

Christians Schiellerup Købke ( born May 26, 1810 in Copenhagen, † February 7, 1848 ) was a Danish painter. He grew up as one of eleven children of the baker Peter Berendt Købke and his wife Cecilie Margrete.

1822, at the age of 12 years, Købke began his training at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Here he studied under Christian August Lorentzen and after his death in 1828 at Christoffer Wilhelm Eckerberg.

Work

In addition to portraits painted Købke numerous landscape views of his native city of Copenhagen and the surrounding areas. Købke is one of the most famous painters of the " Golden Age " of Danish painting. From 1838 to 1840 he lived in Italy. Large-scale views with Italian motifs are among the images of his last years.

Pictures of Købke depend, inter alia in the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek and in which Heinrich Hirschsprung Collection in Copenhagen and at the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh, which in 2010 the exhibition Christians Købke. Danish Master of Light performed.
