Christopher Cross (Album)

Christopher Cross is the title of the debut album of American singer-songwriter Christopher Cross.

History

Christopher Cross in 1979 was an unknown singer in a cover band from San Antonio, when he signed a record deal with Warner Bros. for his own songs. He took these songs in the same year, and ended up with the first single off Ride Like the Wind in the U.S. at number two on the Billboard charts. The album, which bears his name as the title, finished sixth in the charts as the highest placement. The further decoupling Sailing spent a week at number one on the charts.

The album is considered one of the most influential of the sg soft rock that became popular in the early 1980s. Christopher Cross succeeded at the Grammy Awards ceremony in 1981 as the only artist to date, all four major awards in the categories of Best Album, Best Singer, Best Song ( Sailing ) and Best Newcomer win. Only Norah Jones could have similar success with their debut album, but she was awarded the prize in person not in the category Best Song because of the excellent song Do not Know Why was only interpreted by her, but was written by Jesse Harris. Two more Grammys got the song Sailing for the best vocal arrangement and as Single of the Year.
