Properties
Chromium ( III ) iodide is a dark green solid, which is quite resistant to air and moisture. He has hexagonal crystal system with space group P3121. At a temperature above 500 ° C, the compound decomposes, whereby chromium ( II) iodide and iodine formed. With Hexaquachrom (III ) iodide Cr ( H2O6 ) I3 · 3H2O exists also a hydrate of the compound, which forms dark purple hygroscopic crystals.
Use
Chromium (III ) iodide may be used for the production of high-purity chromium.
