ÄŒierny Balog

Čierny Balog ( until 1927 slovak " Balog " or " Čierny Hronec " 1948-1951 " Čierny Blh "; German black water, Hungarian Feketebalog ) is a town in central Slovakia. It lies in the valley of the river Hron Čierny at the foot of Veporské Hills Mountains, ten kilometers from Brezno.

The municipality was created in 1887 by the union of 13 villages Balog, Dobroč, Dolina, Fajtov, Jánošovka, Jergov, Komov, Krám, Látky, Medveďov, Pusté, Vydrovo and Závodie (as Feketebalog 1888 mentioned). The villages were previously closely associated with the founding of the Royal Black water timber business of the Royal Mountain Chamber in the 16th century (1564 first documentary mention ). 1607 Krám was first mentioned as a settlement. The construction of the Black Gran train came in place an economic boom. The operation of the train was set in 1982 and incorporated in 1993 as a tourist attraction again. During the Second World War was the site of one of the centers of the Slovak National Uprising.

Today the municipality include not only the main town of the municipality official parts Dobroč, Fajtov, Jánošovka, Komov, Krám, Medveďov, Pusté and Vydrovo.
