Ciprian Porumbescu

Ciprian Porumbescu ( born October 14, 1853 in Sipote in Bukovina, today Schepit in Ukraine; † July 6, 1883 in Stupca ) was a Romanian composer.

Porumbescu was born the son of an Orthodox priest and studied music in Suceava, Chernivtsi and the Conservatory of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna. There he also met Anton Bruckner and Franz Krenn. He worked as a conductor in Bucharest.

His works include " Crai nou "; the former Romanian national anthem " Trei culori " and the Albanian national anthem " Himni i Flamurit " ( original Romanian name: " Pe - al nostru steag e scris Unire ").

According to him, the Conservatory " Ciprian Porumbescu " Bucharest was named to the renamed National University of Music in Bucharest.
